How to reach La Palma?

You could either fly directly to La Palma (from Madrid or Barcelona almost daily, or other few European cities weekly) or you could come via the neighbouring islands Tenerife (if you plan to attend STARMUS before) or Gran Canaria, then take a local flight or ferry to La Palma. The total round-trip cost to La Palma from Europe should be between 200 and 400 Euro.

Direct flights to La Palma from Europe

Right now (6 Dec 2015) Iberia is selling their basic daily direct flight Madrid-La Palma-Madrid for 263 Euro. You could book this via Iberia website. If you plan to see another island, Vuelos Baratos is a very good flight comparator, where prices start around 200 EUR with a stop in Tenerife.

Other direct flights to La Palma from Europe include Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Berlin-Tegel, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Brussels, Amsterdam and Zurich, most once per week. Links to the companies can be found from the right picture links or from our Astro Travels section which include the departure cities.

IMPORTANT! Make sure to use the SPC airport code for Santa Cruz de La Palma, because there are many confusions about the name!

Indirect links to La Palma

There are many low cost links from many locations in Europe to the neighbouring islands Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Via Tenerife (South or North):

There are two airports in Tenerife (Los Rodeos code TFN in the North and Reina Sofia TFS in the South) linked directly or via one stop by many low cost companies (especially to the South TFS airport) from many cities in Spain, England, Germany, Netherlands, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Switzerland, Norway, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia, Portugal, Maroc, etc.

From Teneride South you can take the ferry from the South harbour Los Cristianos to La Palma (around 19:00 most days, cca 3 hr trip) or you could take the bus to the North Tenerife airport from where you have many local flights (hourly) to La Palma (until 20:30). There are only some national Spanish flights landing in Tenerife North (TFN), but no international flights.

There are two local air companies in Canary, namely Binter Canarias and Canary Fly, both opperating flights to La Palma only from Tenerife North (TFN).

Via Gran Canaria:

There are many direct low cost flights to Gran Canaria (code LPA) from many cities in Europe: England, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Brussels, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Russia, etc. From the same Gran Canaria airport you have some direct flights to La Palma in the afternoon, with return in the morning for around 100 EUR.

How to reach your apart-hotel Las Olas?

Your accommodation and workshop will be based in the same apart-hotel Las Olas in the tourist resort Los Cancajos, very convenient located 5 min by car between the airport of La Palma and the capital Santa Cruz de La Palma (about 7 Euro by taxi which could be shared by 3 people or 1.30 Euro/pers by bus each half hour during business days and each hour during weekend). In Los Cancajos you can easily walk, everything is within 5-10 minutes walk.
